    Battlefield Earth

I've seen much worse movies. In fact, Battlefield Earth was not nearly as bad as I expected. Take out the L. Ron Hubbard connection and you're left with a trite plot, executed in a bafflingly bad, but expensive way. A trainwreck, but surprisingly watchable, no matter how idiotic the plot and characters become. I can't say this film is a so-bad-it's-good contender, you can only laugh at dutch angles and center wipe transitions so many times. Now, If the movie had 20x the amount of Travolta, then it would be gold.

    Blood Simple

    ★★★★½

Blood Simple is an elegantly crafted thriller which has the Cones stripped down to their most bare. This is not to discredit the film by any means; quite the contrary. Blood Simple is beautiful in its simplicity, revealing only enough to convey it's perfectly paced, intricate story. No moment is wasted, with every camera angle used artfully and purposely.

I am completely at a lose as to why this film was so harshly panned by critics and audiences. Perhaps because it doesn't follow the typical dynamics of…

Serial Mom is a pure delight. An off the wall comedy which retains John Waters trashy-aesthetic, while never going so wild to scare away the average film goer. Sharply written with an extraordinary lead performance, Serial Mom is the perfect comedy, with smart social commentary which never overshadows it's sense of pure chaotic joy.
