Rye Lane

Rye Lane ★★★★½

One of the best romantic comedies ever made. It has surprises, unexpected and inspired moments around every corner and with such a short runtime, it made me feel more than the vast majority of movies are capable of doing. The jokes are actually funny. The characters speak like real people and not like actors following a script. To top it off, it's full of cultural (and local) references that put a smile on our faces.

The editing is absolutely brilliant, as is the direction work, including what is done with the camera, how it's shown and how, of course, the actors are conducted. And speaking of actors...what a duo! It's not often that you see this kind of chemistry on screen, where so much is said through expressiveness and where they convince us so well that everything is real, making us want to feel a little bit of it. Vivian Oparah is going to be a star.

Impressive directorial debut by Raine Allen-Miller and I can only say that I'm surprised by myself. I thought this was one of those typical Sundance phenomena - which I don't always get into - but it totally convinced me.
