I am an unapologetic fan of Clint Eastwood movies - at least a lot of them - so I'm always excited to watch his most recent film (except JERSEY BOYS fuck that movie).

RICHARD JEWELL is decidedly middle-tier Eastwood. If it weren't for the FANTASTIC performances of Kathy Bates and Paul Walter Hauser, this would be a pretty damn boring movie. The writing and direction feel lazy as hell.

I was pleased that this wasn't some kind of "oh look…

I didn't care for this film when it came out and absolutely did not understand the massive acclaim around it. I mean, I guess I did - it's a star packed David O. Russell period piece.

Didn't much care for it any more this time around either. It's not bad. It's just... okay. The only real person in the movie is Jeremy Renner's character. And the plot/story.... it's like a conman movie made by someone who utterly fails to understand what makes a good conman movie.

Wish David O. Russell would go back to making films like THREE KINGS. That movie fucks.

Saw this movie in the theatre in 2013. Really liked it at the time, but I loved it this time around.

Very different approach than the original, which remains one of the best (and most important) horror films ever made.

What really makes this movie special are all the practical effects - not just because they are practical, though it definitely shows in a good way that you're not watching CGI, but also because the effects are just plain badass.

The BTS features are GREAT. Lovely insight into a number of the effects, which as a filmmaker is incredibly cool (and valuable).

Goddamn this film is a masterpiece.

Best film of 2009 and rightfully won Best Picture over AVATAR.

Jeremy Renner plays "men on a mission" as good as anyone else out there. His reckless character, constantly seeking adrenaline hits, makes for one of the most tense films probably ever made.

The film also aptly portrays the mental toll of war, whether it's Anthony Mackie's emotional breakdown or Renner's inability to be a part of normal society.

Unexpectedly cool film. More superhero film than horror movie but that's totally fine.

Rebecca Furguson and Kyliegh Curran are awwwwesome.

Some of the stuff with the Jack Nicholson stand-in were a bit jarring, but who cares.

Not Flanagan's best work but definitely a fun movie.
