Antoyn’s review published on Letterboxd:
That scene with Enola throwing her crayons to coincidentally find the written message from her mother is the female equivalent of Andrew Garfield breaking his calculator to find the coins that helped him solve the mystery of his father in The Amazing Spiderman.
I surprisingly didn't enjoy this movie. I'm glad it knows who it wants to be but it was so underwhelming. The main characters fight with the most unthreatening villain and wins via luck rather than actually outsmarting them. The whole thing felt very cartoonish, from its plot to its characters and their performances. That said cartoonish-ness constantly gets annoying.
For a film that features Detective Holmes, it has a very dull and timid case.
The true main crime of the film is the underuse of Henry Cavill.
