Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo ★★★★

Halfway through the movie i had already decided that it was boring, i was not interested anymore and that it wasn’t scary. That was a huge mistake to be honest.

Probably most of the people who know me can say that, because i watch a lot of horror movies, i have become a bit indifferent to almost all the scares and creeps that these types of films should give you. This one though (with a few others like Kairo and Sinister) did make and still makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

There’s a scene almost at the end of the movie, that completely changed the direction i thought it was taking and tossed the narrative into a black, vacuous void of non-existence.
That scene completely transformed the way i see this, and even though i found it a bit tedious to get through at first, when i got what it wanted to do i understood that it’s actually kinda brilliant (in a very dark way).

I’m officially in a state of existential dread, so if you want to get creeped out, this is one of the best you can choose.
I certainly know that i will be thinking about it (and will probably rewatch it) for a long time.
