Noun: 1. Deep sadness or gloom; melancholy.
2. A mental condition marked by persistent depression and ill-founded fears.
Well crafted. The first half some might find a little dry, but stick with it, it's worth it.
I think a lot of us are feeling that "it's the end of the world" thing right now, so with that, this film might resonate.
A planet is hurtling itself toward earth. And Von Trier's film deals with each character's grappling with the possibility of the end. The end result really focuses on depression (and anxiety) and gives us an intimate look into that.
Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg are great here as siblings both in very different head spaces. The classical score is almost like another character here, it's perfect.
Beautiful, and visually stunning.
