There's something to this, though I'm not sure what.

The '90s nostalgia ISN'T overdone, surprisingly enough, and the bond and friendship between the main skater kids feels authentic and fully realized in ways the rest of the film doesn't necessarily achieve.

How to Be a Latin Lover

Really formulaic, but the lead is good and the family stuff works and carries it. Surprisingly the more established comedic actors (almost all named Rob) are the weakest link here, with Rob Lowe mostly coasting but with Rob Wriggle and Rob Huebel completely striking out. The fact that this remains as watchable as it is is a testment to Eugenio Derbez as a star and the chemistry he has with Salma Hayek as his sister. Let's hope his next project is stronger but you could do worse than to stumble across this.
