Midsommar

Midsommar ★★★★

Probably the most divisive film of the year, one of the most disturbing films I’ve seen and one of the most realistic portrayals of grief ever portrayed.

Given that I read the screenplay a few months ago and knew what was going to happen, I was still STUNNED by the cinematography and sound design. I realized how reading a scene can be completely different than what you imagined and seeing it on a screen can transform it visually. How does a twisted, disturbing film like this look so beautiful?? The attention to detail is insane (the foreshadowing ugly drawings on the wall) so everyone say thank you Ari Aster!! The way he is able to capture something so unsettling while the film not truly being the expected “horror” film is on another level.

I was a little let down with the way the tension builds up between characters - I really thought it was amazing in the screenplay yet it wasn’t really there in the film. But also let down from certain deaths on screen. From not showing anything at all yet SHOWING EVERYTHING! THIS SHIT GRAPHIC and it hurted fr im going to be picturing some scenes in my head im truly traumatized ❤️
