    Hot take: a masterpiece.

Not sure if it’s brilliant on its own or just because it is so beautifully complimented by Part II (which I prefer). But it really is a movie where every scene works and every performer is on their A-game. As a Shakespeare nerd, the way it’s so indebted to his tragedies has always made me happy. Invasion of the Body Snatchers

    ★★★★½

Love myself a good paranoid thriller, but this snuck up on me in a way I didn’t expect. It’s so scary! Gone Girl

    ★★★★½

"Gone Girl" is such a mean, nasty, almost evil film. But David Fincher and Gillian Flynn revel in the darkness and brings the satire from the novel to the forefront of the screen.

Many who haven't read "Gone Girl" dismiss it as a trashy thriller, but such a claim is not only ignorant but uninformed. Both the film and book begin as a rather straightforward thriller, that slowly backs itself into a corner, only to break the wall it's been…
