Well, it's October. That means it's time for some horror movies...
"Shadow of the Vampire" may not be a scary movie per se, but it is about a scary movie, and has some genuinely unsettling and tense moments. It's also funny, intelligent, thought provoking and extremely well made. Willem Dafoe is on another level here. The sets and costume design are top notch. And the cinematography and editing are perfect.
At it's heart, "Shadow of the Vampire" seems to be about the pressures of filmmaking and the cost of art. Thanks to an unusual but well captured tone, the film is, primarily, an unusual piece of entertainment, but there is plenty of subtext to chew on here. This is definitely a must see.
