Matt T’s review published on Letterboxd:
A standard, but entertaining thriller. There is absolutely no reason for the film to be 150 minutes long, and the last thirty minutes drag, but the story itself is quite absorbing. The tone Sydney Pollack strikes is interesting- at first I thought it was misguided and far too light, but it ended up working as the situation goes from being too-good-to-be-true to very, very bad. Cruise is the ideal movie star, and his work here is solid. Holly Hunter is also a complete joy in what could have been a thankless part, but I do think the Oscar nomination is a little ridiculous.
"The Firm" is fine. Nothing incredible, but perfectly serviceable. Oh, and the score is excellent, too.
