A serviceable adaptation of one of my favorite novels. Was hoping for much more.
I hadn't seen About Schmidt in years, but I've been re-watching some Nicholson movies lately. This is such an entertaining movie, and such a terrific performance from Jack. The movie world is a sadder place these days with no new Nicholson performances in almost a decade.
On a related note, remember the 2002 Academy Awards when 4 outstanding performances were nominated for Best Actor and the other one won?
I did not enjoy this overall, despite some fun moments of spectacle. And I know this might be a silly point in the grand scheme of things, but as someone who loves The Iron Giant, it bothered me that they stuck him in as a battle tool, essentially completely ignoring the message of "The Iron Giant".
