The Father

The Father ★★★★

A really tough, terrific drama anchored by two stellar turns by Colman and Hopkins (who may be even better than the films they each won statues for!). In a lot of ways this is made in the production design and especially in the editing. That translation of the amorphous ambling nature of someone facing dementia is a particularly effective strand of quiet devastation. The pathos builds on itself as time goes on, coming to a head in a sobering finale. It's also just always such an utter delight seeing Imogen Poots and Olivia Williams on screen, two actors I am always excited to have around!
