This feels like a fitting epilogue to the franchise. Honestly, though, I like it because it’s not the only Buzz & Woody adventure after Toy Story 3–we’ve watched the Toy Story Shorts (Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry, Partysaurus Rex, The Toy Story of Terror, and the Toy Story that Time Forgot) quite a bit in my household. If you haven’t seen those, they really help this one feel like just another Bonnie’s Room Adventure rather than the end all, be all of the Toy Story franchise. And, I liked that.
Charming but not perfect. It felt like a DCOM with an astonishing budget. The new songs are good, even if they feel very much like “we need a ‘Let It Go’ here”. Will Smith does fine as the genie. Not as instantly classic as Robin Williams, but it’s fun. Overall it’s cute and I’m sure we’ll watch it again.
Ready Player One is bad and dumb but kinda fun in spite of itself. It plays out with basically no character development and almost zero sense of peril. The characters have plot armor the whole time and you know how it's going to end during the opening monologue (yeah, there's lots of narration).
It felt more like a YA Emoji Movie than anything else. I think this is because it's a movie that is supposed to be a love letter…
This movie is bad. It's too long, really bizarre tonally, and has a lot of weird and not really necessary (or kid-appropriate) subplots. Plus there is like a half hour chunk near the end where Jim Carrey just grunts while a strangely edited montage of his "best" on-set improvisations plays. I hate that my kids and my wife love this movie.
