  The reputation this work has garnered among younger cinephiles as Lynch’s best film is quite well earned. What makes Inland Empire transcend the rest of Lynch’s repertoire is the shift towards self criticism. As a sexual abuse survivor, I have a strong affinity towards Fire Walk With Me, but have recently begun to question aspects of that film. There’s a very strong argument one can make that Lynch turns Laura’s suffering (alongside many of his other female characters) into fetish.…
