Stephen Root pantomiming an erection is worth the price of admission alone.
So story-wise it’s Macbeth so it’s gonna be what you expect. But what makes this version actually cinematically significant isn’t the beautiful photography but more importantly rather it’s Coen’s usage of cinematic grammar. You could literally take out the dialogue sound and add title cards and the same film could be shown in the style of a 20s European silent film.
Overall this film is pretty bleak and haunting but hey it’s Macbeth so kinda the point right?
