such an 80s movie: cops wearing jeans and leather jackets, gratuitous nudity, giant boxy cars, and a super of-the-era soundtrack. lots of overlap with the french connection, except the obsessive-detective in this one lacks almost any redeeming qualities. willem dafoe plays a great master artisan-counterfeiter antagonist, and john turturro drops some great aggrieved one-liners. biggest surprise though? seeing daphne from frasier appear towards the end.
