I really enjoyed this. Who could have ever expected that Tom Hanks could play a captain of some capacity? I watched this along with a Hitchcock classic that also dealt with a WWII U-Boat, Lifeboat. It was a pretty satisfying double feature.

    Cars 3

My soon-to-be three year old has been watching a whole lot of Cars 2 recently and I finally coaxed him into watching Cars 3. The second installment leaves radiator springs and many of the main characters behind to really stretch the boundaries of reality in the Cars-verse. It doesn't work. Cars 3 goes back to the Piston Cup and many of the characters from the first installment, however with less Mater. My son wasn't thrilled with less Mater, but it…

    Mister Roberts

It's a nice movie, driving home the central theme of community that John Ford has in most of his movies. It's an interesting movie about the fighting boredom during wartime that MASH put a lot of milage into. There are funny bits but then they are over explained and beaten to death.

  • Rebecca

I watched this back-to-back with the 1940 version of Rebecca and I feel like they're both really good companions to each other. I don't really get why there's chatter of "why are they remaking this" for a movie that came out 80 years ago that, although it was an Oscar winner, is hardly one of the best remembered Hitchcock movies. I like the time this movie takes in the courting of "I" at the resort, the beautiful exterior shots and great costumes, I'm a fan of the casting of Lily James and Armie Hammer and found this to be an over-all nice little thriller.

    Mission: Impossible - Fallout

This sets itself apart in the MI series of movies through its visual storytelling and the Hitchcock-like suspense mixed with a mini-Ocean’s 11-style heist factor. The cold open is one of the best in the series. Ving Rhames finally gets a shot at a little spot to shine by showing that he is a bit of the heart of the team, while simultaneously showing his character’s technical expertise. I’m glad this movie doesn’t fall into being a sloppy romantic triangle around Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. This could really find its way getting bumped up to five stars for just the love of movies.

    Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

I'm probably bumped this up a rating just for the pure density of laughs. The plot had to have been improvised as they went, it's really impressive. The scenes with people that teach lessons are especially touching. It's surprising that some of the subjects still don't recognize the Borat costume... it might work on my parents still, although they would be a boring interview. Between this and The Trial of the Chicago 7, Sacha Baron Cohen is having a helluva fall season.
