A fascinating story of the falling out between man and AI that ultimately leads to Judgment Day, I'm assuming... or the downfall of technology resulting in a collapse of society of the Mad Max movies. I like to think that it is the chronological bridge between the time traveling Terminators and the virtual prison of the Matrix they build for humans after their eventual future war defeat. Or maybe it's just a guy who loves his phone just a little too much.

This movie is interesting for a number of reasons but the most complicated of all seems to be the DNA of inspirations for it. In some ways this is almost birthed by an algorithm of recent spy movies.

There's a little trend in movie marketing that seems to be edgy covers of alternative songs, something that seemed to start with the cover version of Radiohead's "Creep" in the trailer for Social Network. One of the best trailers for a movie…

This is a lot better than I had remembered, although that's not saying a lot. There is a lot more of the weird and stunningly beautiful imagery of David Lynch even if some in of his casting choices if odd character actors is out of place in the tone of the movie. It seems I had forgotten how packed with story this movie is. Not only that, it lives in the framework of Greek mythology while also strongly incorporating blues mythology and southern/depression culture. This movie goes into the Hall of Fame of great collections if faces on film, both from casting and crazy expressions.

This sets itself apart in the MI series of movies through its visual storytelling and the Hitchcock-like suspense mixed with a mini-Ocean’s 11-style heist factor. The cold open is one of the best in the series. Ving Rhames finally gets a shot at a little spot to shine by showing that he is a bit of the heart of the team, while simultaneously showing his character’s technical expertise. I’m glad this movie doesn’t fall into being a sloppy romantic triangle around Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. This could really find its way getting bumped up to five stars for just the love of movies.

You can’t have a Host without a Parasite. I tried really hard to come in to this movie cold and based on the name alone I figured it would be one of the Bong science fiction movies like The Host, Okja or Snowpiecer. I didn’t realize it would be one of his straight thrillers like Mother or Memories of a Murder until I was walking up to the ticket counter and heard an old man with his grandson giving him…
