Strange Colours

Strange Colours ★★★★

amazing film. it subverts a lot of expectations surrounding australian cinema — handling the rural mining town landscape with such delicacy and its inhabitants with such tenderness. the overwhelmingly masculine culture of australia is so prominently commented on in films i’ve seen but strange colours depicts it in such a unique, personal way. the story is driven by the human condition and a melancholic sense of love for the land. reminded me of columbus (the kogonada film) in a lot of ways. sorry for rambling but this is a very special film and an incredible debut i’m gonna write an essay on this ☝🏽
