Just as the characters in the film often struggled to explain their desires, interests, and what they knew, I too have a hard time articulating why I loved this. Most of the movie hit me more on a subconscious level rather than a conscious one, which is all the more appropriate with the themes and the dreamlike style of the film. I think the filmmaker may have been trying to make a statement on the relationship between subconsciousness and individuality, perhaps invoking the collective unconscious of Carl Jung, but I’d need more research and rewatches before I could really say for certain.
