The Death of Stalin ★★★★½

I love this movie. I really do. It has everything I’d ever want in a film: the Soviet Union, dark comedy, Armando Iannucci and Steve Buscemi.

When I originally saw this I was blown away by how timely, hilarious, and intelligent it was. It became my favorite movie of last year, a spot it tends to shuffle around with Herditary and Roma.

This second time I saw it I still found myself laughing uncontrollably and delightfully immersed in the world. But I also was afraid and quite sad. Without trying, this film became a horror comedy as I realized that the death count must be insane. It reminded me a lot of Dr. Strangelove in that way.
