He remembers those vanished years, and remembers the pain of holding back. Mouth against warm stone, he released every word that couldn't escape him, cleaned of every time he said too much or said nothing. As though looking through a dusty window pane, everything was framed from a watcher's eye, an imminent red painted along his sights. The past was a person, one he could see but not touch. Grazed by him, gone forever to the slow passing. The fabrics of a commitment lost now for it could not and could never have remained unbroken. Now, the pane stains in wait and in mourning. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct.
