Cock of the Air

Cock of the Air ★★★

Probable the least known extant Howard Hughes movie from the 1930s. And while it seems to have been chopped up by the Hays Code, it's a surprising delight! Very reminiscent of later-30s screwball comedies mixed with Lubitsch style touches! Billie Dove as a appetizing Opera diva and Chester Morris as a womanizing army pilot (Yes, you can't have a Howard Hughes movie without flying). This flirt takes them from lively Italy to the clubs of Paris and the trip is filled with snappy lines and visual ideas making this an undervalued gem.
