it uses Chekov’s original text to increasingly get more under the characters’ skin, drawing deeper painful parallels, all culminating in that final dialogue scene, brilliant and wonderful, transcending the laws of acting and writing and everything you know about film, breaking the barrier between the artist and the audience.
