If, as some critics have suggested, every film is about the act of filmmaking itself, Tenet is Nolan announcing he has lost any ability to tell a real story - one without gimmickry or imaxification or shattering the narrative into chronological fragments. A total abdication of the role of storyteller.

An artist, lost in the woods, trapped by trees he planted, imagining them sucking their leaves in and shrinking back into the ground.
