    My Own Private Idaho

The kind of movie I wish I made. Beautiful cinematography with a career defining performance from River Phoenix, the film has a gentle sense of emotion to it from beginning to end which kept me completely invested the whole time without a single lackluster moment.

It has been said a million times and can not be said enough, River Phoenix was a truly sensational performer and if he was still with us we would still be honouring him as one of the greatest to ever do it with a long career to back it up.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Watching this movie I couldn't help but notice its similarities to Taxi Driver, I feel the 2 movies are different sides of the same coin.

In Taxi Driver, Travis Bickle is under the belief that he is someone in need of saving and that a woman in his life has the power to do just that, but in the bleak world of Taxi Driver, this is an unrealistic expectation, just as it would be in life. When Travis finds this…

hannibal lecter. the joker. patrick bateman. amazing amy.

they are all 1 of the same, but i feel the character of amy and the stunning performance from rosamund pike really brought out a different side to the archetype we have rarely seen before with a motivation worth understanding in its themes of toxic masculinity.

Although this film was destroyed by critics upon release, I feel this movie has only grown up to be a classic and I'm sure as more time goes on with new people being introduced to the show, this movie might even go on to garner a well deserved reputation as a fantastic movie worthy of David Lynch's reputation as a visionary director.

I don't think it's possible to talk about Fire Walk With Me without talking…

no filmmaker will ever make character studies like Paul Schrader has done and for that i would personally consider him as one of the top three greatest screenwriters of all time. when such screenwriting talent is matched up with unbelievably stylistic and precise direction, beautiful set design, music and acting to say the least. this film is a masterpiece with creativity and intrigue that has almost never been repeated in any sort of similar way since the film's release.
