Josh Ragland’s review published on Letterboxd:
How have I only watched 2 of Waititi’s movies. So far, this and Wilderpeople are my 2 favorites that I’ve seen in the last calendar year.
I thought this worked in both the comedic and dramatic realms and the twist (which I did not see coming at all) totally blew me away and made me tear up a bit. Rockwell, Johansson and Davis all gave great performances and Waititi’s Hitler was very funny. Honestly, as I began the movie I was worried how they would take such a horrific subject and make it humorous, but I felt Johansson as Jojo’s mom and her character’s heart and kindness really grounded everything and made the comedy bits work.
