  nuclear family as prewritten damnation. you cannot escape who made you. posited beside a gentle child, the viewer understands exactly what that child is doomed to become. i find it more like a horror movie set in the glorious west than a film romanticizing the events or the western setting. it hangs damoclesian above them all: this broken love will end them. and the circle goes right back circling, orobouros, the minute mother and child are united. it was never a love story. it was never joyful. this is my last straw man
