Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home ★★★½

Solid film but lacking in some aspects. Too many characters, plot convenience, jokes that are overdone. The cast is terrific and really carry the material, Holland and Gyllenhaal especially.

The plot is corny but very self aware. I feel an overuse of cgi really hurt this film and many action sequences feel very fake. The blending of cgi and practical was much better handled in Raimi's films, even Webb's at times. The cgi drone fights are very dull. There are plenty of creative sequences involving Mysterio which I won't get into.

Mysterio is one of the few comic characters I actually knew from the comics. I had originally been introduced to him in the Spider-man 2 video game on playstation 2. I played through his levels and I was like "Who the fuck is this guy? This guy is badass!" Of course, my 10 year old self scoped all over town looking for a Mysterio action figure the next day. Going into this film knowing who he was and where this story was going, I thought it was a pretty entertaining portrayal of that character. I wish I could get into why I enjoy that character so much but I wouldn't want to spoil it.

Overall, you'll probably see it anyway.
