Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart ★★★½

"I'd like to apologize to you gentlemen for referring to you all as homosexuals. You taught me a valuable lesson in life." - Sailor Ripley

Boasts the creepiest Willem Dafoe performance you will ever see in a scene stealing show, it's thanks to him that the second half doesn't drag into mediocrity. Wild at Heart is a mixed bag of craziness and jarring editing. It's the imperfectness of the finished product that gives it its charm. However, it also stops me from really loving it which is a shame because there a few really stunning scenes throughout, even if they feel like they are placed there randomly (The car crash at the side of the road is as spooky as it is gorgeous).

The Wizard of Oz fable is trippy and replacing the yellow brick road characters with lunatics and killers is mad. Wild at Heart is a story of weird visuals and hullucinations and by the time the end comes a lot of the side plots are just forgotton about, tangents go nowhere but it doesn't really matter as long as you're invested in the ride.
