SPOOKTOBER #11:

Goddammit this movie makes me so happy.

The mere fact that it exists is a miracle on its own. Especially after David Gordon Green’s attempt at a Halloween film, this is so goddamn refreshing. This is my second time watching this, but seeing it again felt like a whole new experience. It felt like watching it again for the first time.

Even after a second watch, I can’t fully explain what I think the themes are (although I know a lot of them have to do with motherhood, womanhood, and guilt of a generation), but right now, I can just appreciate the way this film made me feel. I was so uneasy throughout the entire thing that I almost cried a few times. Every zoom, pan, crossfade and cut completely surprised me. The dance choreography and the ghostly presence of the camera as it floated around was so intimidating and spooky, and on top of that, every performance was so brilliant and fitting for the film (especially the three by Tilda Swinton).

THAT LAST THIRTY MINUTES! HOT DAMN!!!!

This was the best 21st birthday present I could’ve asked for. Thank you, Luca. You’ve given me everything I could possibly want in a film.
