My 1000th log and approximately 250th review after 11 months on this site. The community has been such an inspiration for me in finding new movies to watch and how I perceive them. Every person I follow almost always writes something that resonates with me. I'm impressed how you find things I hadn't considered and your observations make me excited to discover new films and make this hobby last my whole life. During periods like these when I have very little time to actually watch or write about movies, it's even more important that I can still be connected with cinema and there is no better place than this site (for me at least). Just wanted to thank everyone for their contributions before my quick thoughts on this film.
I'm not too familiar with Wes Anderson's works first hand but his style is well known so I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed. His storytelling is wonderfully hilarious and quirky. From the way he casts A list actors to the use of color and framing everything feels refreshing and original. He seems to have a special glimmer in his eyes that never fades and gives him a completely distinct personality. It's fortunate that he is able to convey that perspective so clearly in his films and provide gems like these that never run out of fuel. I was reminded a bit about the stories read by my parents in my childhood and how I was taken to another place. Completely unfiltered and yet to develop a sense of understanding what anything meant but still feeling all these emotions and simply enjoying the voice of the person reading while picturing in my head lush forests, mighty towns or whatever it might have been.
One can obviously filter a lot of ideas and mature subjects from Anderson's films but like with Isle of Dogs the story and style was enough for me to leave satisfied.
