Just some dude from Hawaii who loves film
My ratings are based on enjoyment
A jazzy erotic thriller about a musician who develops an obsession with a woman who may or may not be a ghost. I’m sure there’s some poetic statement about letting go of the past or something like that, but like a lot of the Jess Franco movies I’ve seen it requires patience that I just don’t have. Extra half star for the fact that it’s very stylish; it’s definitely got a “vibe” at the very least.
I don’t know if I’d call this a “nature run amok” movie because it’s literally just a grizzly doing grizzly shit, but it’s definitely a very typical killer animal movie in the spirit of Jaws, which came out a year before this. I found this to be pretty boring when the grizzly wasn’t tearing people to shreds. The sporadic violent moments that we do get, though, are fun and hilariously gory, and I love that everyone is fair game: men, women, AND children.
This required some big suspensions of disbelief at certain points, but besides that I really enjoyed this limited series and found it to be an effective crime thriller. It’s a quick watch with most of the episodes clocking in around 30 minutes, and I thought Kevin Hart and especially Wesley Snipes were great. I don’t go out of my way to watch anything Hart is in so this was a bit of a revelation for me as far as seeing him in a dramatic role. Theo Rossi is also quite good in a small but important role.
