The Florida Project

The Florida Project ★★★★★

I often can't stand kids in real life, as with a lot of great films this makes me see the beauty in things I typically don't like. This movie reminds me of what it's like to be a kid, to live in a world where there are less consequences and everything is magical. It feels less like a "loss of innocence" movie than a cry for the preservation of what happiness we have in our lives. I love the little scratches on the image. I love the idea of a mother who does everything she can to make her children happy in the present, an interesting contrast to Lady Bird with a mother who is looking out for her daughter's future, or Moonlight with a mom who only can see herself in the present. (I see a lot of people comparing this movie to Moonlight, though I don't really see much similarity besides taking place in projects).
