My experience with this sort of parallels my experience with High Life, which I was mostly just confused by on first viewing, but then sort of fell in love with on second viewing after I gave up on trying to figure it out.
I think it also helps that on this viewing of the Lighthouse, as opposed to my first, I wasn't jacked up on caffeine (I have a very low caffeine tolerance) so I was able to fall into the movie's rhythm pretty immediately. And taking this as just a fun time with your crazy friends Rob and Willem it's a delight and any movie that uses extreme distortion in its sound design is going to make me happy. Though I do think that it is a bit too long and gets a little repetitive towards the end.
