RazorRex’s review published on Letterboxd:
Do I even need to say anything about this film? What hasn't been said about this film that has already been said?
It's freaking King Kong! It's one of the most iconic movies of all time! The film has inspired countless filmmakers ranging from Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Ishirō Honda, and Ray Harryhausen! It has amazing special effects by Willis O'Brien. It has been referenced and parodied endlessly. If you haven't seen it why are you wasting your time reading this review? Go see it already!
Okay I'll go more into detail on why this film is special.
King Kong set the bar for cinema using multiple techniques at once to bring many iconic scenes to life from the iconic T. Rex battle to the climax on Empire State Building.
It also helped that the monsters felt even more alive compared to previous films like 1925's The Lost World.
But something else this movie had going for it is sound. While not the first film with sound King Kong was able to bring sound into the film that was of excellent quality using dialogue and soundtrack brilliantly.
The only thing really wrong with this film is that it had some rather not so politically correct things but hey product of it's time.
Overall King Kong is a film that redefined cinema as a whole and it's mark is still left on the world today.
