Licorice Pizza

Licorice Pizza ★★★★

This is PTA’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. Outside of feeling a little long-winded, it’s a really fun hangout movie. It’s goofy, sweet, slickly made, beautifully acted, and thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end. Like Tarantino, Anderson utilizes the sound, iconography, and style of it’s time period and location for full-effect. Gary and Alana’s relationship is the heart of the film. The sarcasm, wit, and tension between the two of them is palpable and real. Really impressed with Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman - who has a lot of his dad in him. Their performances feed off of one another and it’s a joy to watch. Bradley Cooper had me rolling in his couple minutes of screen time, and I would’ve loved to see him catch a supporting actor nomination.
