Offers very interesting ideas, but almost entirely wastes the potential of them. Liman is a very competent director (in my opinion), but his directing felt invisible here (this didn't feel like a Doug Liman film.) This is one of the messiest science fiction movies I've ever seen, and the development hell it went through definitely explains why (apparently Charlie Kaufman was originally involved at some point.)
Holland and Ridley are good, but their chemistry isn't great. Mads is solid (though I was expecting a bit more, but that's more at fault of the script), Erivo is decent but she's not given enough screentime, and Jonas is really bad. I didn't hate Chaos Walking, but it's a major dissapointment that squanders it's great potential.
