Jacky’s review published on Letterboxd:
Willem DaFoe? Don't you mean Willem DaFucking best actor alive?
There's so much to digest with The Lighthouse that I don't think people whether it be mainstream audiences, cinephiles or critics can properly review after first viewing so nor will I.
I will reiterate the same things everyone and their mother has said about the film because the truth bares repeating from time to time. DaFoe gives a career best performance, sucking up every inch of screen time. Pattinson channels the likes of Daniel Plainview to create a distinct, paranoid, angered character that never feels out of place in the absurdity of the film. Criminal this hadn't gotten more technical nominations outside of cinematography (as awesome as that one is), there's something to appreciate in every frame going down to simple sound design.
Alright, just a few more years until Robert Eggers' Nosferatu remake, I'll just sit here and wait in the meantime.
