Enola Holmes was probably better than it had any right to be; this was a really fun family movie and I had a good time with it. Millie Bobby Brown absolutely aced her lead role - she was very charismatic and showed a great amount of talent. I really enjoyed the other performances here too; although not the best portrayal we’ve had, Henry Cavill was a decent enough Sherlock. An element of this movie that I highly enjoyed was the costume and set design, both of which were visually pleasing and well done indeed. This is far from one of the best movies on Netflix but it’s definitely worth the watch for some fun.
The obvious thing to talk about here is the frequent fourth wall breaks, and personally it was way too much for me. I usually find them corny anyway, but the amount this movie had really didn’t sit well with me. Also, being a Sherlock story I was expecting a really good mystery, but for me it just wasn’t engaging enough and at times I forgot what the main mystery actually was because so many other plot points take over. I understand this is a movie focusing on the character of Enola, hence the title, but I really wish some other characters got some more development and screen time, particularly Sam Claflin and even Henry Cavill.
