Burning ★★½

I'm in the minority here but I found Burning to be a slog to get through. The film is slow for the sake of being slow, full of beautiful imagery and an ambiguous narrative that sets up a mystery (maybe?) but that intentionally resolves nothing. I ADORE long movies but there's no reason for this to be two-and-a-half hours long. None. This is one of those arthouse success stories that has appealed to many people but the film left me cold because of its aesthetic impenetrability. What should pull me in and tempt me with its mysteries instead comes across as flaccid and overly restrained. It's technically exquisite and full of meaning but just one of those cases where one has to be receptive to the content and its execution.
