Lin Shaye has carried this series and she can carry it for another dozen interquels as far as I'm concerned. It's honestly awesome to see an older female protagonist in a horror franchise of all places considering Hollywood's agism issues. It was also great to see Elise get some female support, to the extent that my biggest complaint is that Elise and her nieces didn't get more of a chance to be a team. Ultimately a lot of this movie is about girls and women helping, protecting, and supporting each other, and that's something I'm always happy to see more of.
We've entered an era where horror prequels are surpassing the original films, and I'm all for it. Annabelle: Creation is an excellent film that doesn't pull any punches despite thriving on subtlety. It uses lighting and environment to amp up the atmosphere and is never exploitive despite its almost entirely female cast. I'll admit it: I'm excited for the next Annabelle flick.
