I'm always baffled by the hype behind Last Night in Soho and how people act as if Edgar Wright is this masterful auteur. Don't get me wrong, I've liked what I've seen from him so far but jesus fucking this one was unbearable, infuriating, and downright nasty.
What I hate about most is how basic bitches will probably paint this as a “good for her” story because it stars their favorite white girl. I haven't been this pissed off from watching a movie in a while and I need to write this down so I can get some good night’s sleep. I wasn't comfortable saying to others that Edgar Wright is overrated because he has an annoying following backed up by *that* white girl’s army but I don't give a fuck anymore. Last night in Soho was tone-deaf, superficial, and irresponsible. Some insipid creatures might fall for the bait and think this is progressive when it’s not is what I fear the most. If you are going THERE, you might as well handle the issues that these films gloss over with sincerity and intricacy. BUT IT DOESN'T!!! It spits on sex work and mental health. How can this be so insipid? and another thing that's infuriating is how it thinks that its checks all the right boxes. It thinks it's "girl power!" when it's the complete opposite. On top of that, it appears as if the film thinks it's terrifying when it's not. You're not perfect blue. Stop it!
