This film is a good example of a film having bad marketing. The poster shows a dog looking into the woods. Potential viewers think “what’s it looking at”. The name suggests that whatever the dog is looking at is some sort of creature. And that it only appears at night. All of this suspenseful marketing to make you think the film you are about to view has a mysterious creature. But nope, all of this excitement leads to the creature…

This film has a unique feel to it. Everything about it feels original and fresh. I love the music and the casting. This is definitely one of my favorite Sam Neill performances. Julian Dennison is great and I hope to see him advance in his acting career. The film is hilarious by the way. The main two character’s Hec and Ricky have such a funny relationship. It was fun watching their bond grow.

Hands down the best joke was when Hec and Ricky were hiding behind the tree roots/dirt and Ricky referenced The Lord of the Rings. I laughed out loud.

The acting is ok. But at the root of it all, the script is what really suffers for me. This film felt like it was trying too hard to be smart and new.

The ending when the the last survivor tricks…

I still love this film. It makes me think a lot about my place in this universe. It makes me feel a way most movies just don’t. Fantastic film.
