"What happened to you?"
I have no words to describe how shocking and twisted this film was for me, but at the same time it was surprisingly entertaining and I have managed to have a lot of fun watching it together with my brother. Ready or Not is definitely solid from the start with its engaging narrative and kept my eyes glued to the screen for the entire running time with the way it was able to build tension so effectively while balancing comedy and gory horror in such a clever way. I don't remember the last time I was feeling this anxious for a fictional character as I was for Grace. Samara Weaving's fantastic performance with her convincing facial expressions and reactions were truly able to elevate the film and therefore, was such a memorable protagonist in my opinion.
The actual concept of hide-and-seek as a deadly game was surprisingly original to watch as problematic as this crazy and dark twist may be, but surprisingly worked really well as part of a horror movie. There were certainly dumb moments and ridiculous choices from some of the characters, but I guess that was the point with the film's satire style humor. Overall, Ready or Not was definitely such a pleasant surprise for me as it was probably one of the best horror experiences I have ever had. The writing might have been lacking at times with the film rushing into the story without really introducing any of the characters, but this was not a major issue as the plot had clever execution with a satisfying ending that was certainly enough.
