The West Wing/Evangelion mash-up no one knew they wanted from a Godzilla film, and what makes it all the more remarkable is that it's even better than that already sounds on paper. Hilarious, tense, clever and genuinely awe-inspiring in both its use of scale and the mind-bending twists it has to make the old monster truly terrifying in a way he hasn't been in a long time. Dear Toho: do whatever it takes to keep Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi on as creative forces for anything next.
