The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time ★★

Somehow manages to feel both incredibly sprawling and broad yet still far too brief to connect to anything. Campos just never lets the visuals speak for themselves, instead delving into vague expository musings on “family” and “the nature of violence” which is already incredibly rote territory for the genre, I really feel like this required a far dirtier and grizzly approach rather than the stale Netflix-safe leanings. Stretches of this work and much of the cast bring in incredible performances but I’m ultimately left feeling incredibly cold.
