Roger Mantica’s review published on Letterboxd:
Very real coming of age story about a teenager. It presents a very accurate portrayal of struggling parents who are doing the best to raise their children, and the relationship between parents and children.
I really liked the route the movie took with the portrayal of the Catholic school faculty, it never shined a negative light on them, on the contrary, I think it presents them very human and caring and as good educators, specially the principal.
Religion has a very important role in this movie, religion is what makes the main character realize how grateful she is for her parents, God gives her the gift of grace. The film is very profound in it's portrayal of religion.
There are a couple of routes the screenplay takes that are cliched and predictable, but you tend to forgive them because the film is very well made.
Performances are overall great, this is a very strong debut for Great Gerwig as a director.
