basically any movie that's old/weird/silly will get my attention, haha
Better than I expected, which wasn't much.
Why this worked for me:
* Its well-lit (unlike so many modern movies that mistake desaturation for 'atmosphere,' you can actually see what's going on here)
* some of the action choreography was by the John Wick guys
* Zachary Quinto looks good being angry and punching stuff (and it makes more sense here than in Star Trek Into Darkness)
* I have no investment in the past mythology of this franchise, so…
Watched from the Cannon Films DVD boxset
It was a lazy, rainy Sunday, and this seemed the perfect movie for today:
Dull, but with a few interesting moments. Just like the day itself.
Norris gets maybe two scenes of him doing the kind of stupid action he is known for. The rest of the movie he mostly broods around -- in all black. At times that's mildly entertaining: a unqiue chance to see Noir/Goth Norris, lol.
The worst of it…
...I was promised a giant tree monster, and didn't get one until halfway through the movie. And then, he doesn't start lurching around until the last quarter of the movie. That last quarter alone boosts this two-star movie to three stars. Otherwise, go watch an Eddie Romero 'Blood Island' movie instead, which seem like better iterations of this story.
