Robert "Robbie" Grawey’s review published on Letterboxd:
“I’ve got a tape I want to play”
This was my first ever concert film and I didn’t know what to expect, but WOW.
David Byrne has cemented himself as one of my all-time favorite artists, and not just in music.
He managed to create a stage performance that stays consistently engaging for well over an hour. Every track introduces a new stage element, every track elevates the use of their space, and every track offers a natural and energetic progression to the show. The choreography offers enough variety to keep every section visually interesting and having the different band members always on the move, switching instruments and stage positions, gives the entire film such a chaotic and joyous feeling.
I loved every minute.
Everyone in this is so ridiculously talented.
Not only are the concert and album fantastic on their own, but the actual filmmaking elevates it to a whole different level.
EDITING. SHOT COMPOSITION. CAMERAWORK. All fantastic.
As someone who’s recorded a few live shows I honestly can’t believe how well crafted this is and how well all of the camerawork incorporates into the choreography and blocking.
Mind-blowingly good.
I may have a new all-time favorite.
